고무가스켓은 다른 가스켓에 비하여 연질이고 순응성이 좋기 때문에 낮은 체결력으로도 실 성능을 발휘한다. 또 기밀성이 뛰어나 있으므로 가스계 유체에도 충분한 기밀을 유지할 수 있다. 하지만, 내열성·내압성이 낮고 재질에 따라서는 내약품성이 다르므로 선정에는 충분한 주의를 필요로 한다.
